Differential? 4.10?

Differential? 4.10?
Alrighty....2005 GT. I want to set up this car for some fun at the track. The first thing we want to do is change the gears. After reading all the forums I have decided on the 4.10's. I have a couple questions... 1. Is the Stock limited slip differential worth a crap? Will I get a one tire fire with this differential? If so any recommendations on changing it out? 2. Alot of talk about different brands for the 4.10's. Putting price aside which brand would you go with and why? I am curious if the differential will hold its own at the track....trying not to embarass all mustang fans out there. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks, Corey

RE: Differential? 4.10?
First off, if you are going for a track only car, go with 4.30s
Go with a high quality gearset--I've had good success with Ford Racing A series castings & Richmond gears, Some have troubles with motives whining(mainly in the install. FRPP gears stamped M are made by motive btw).
I've seen a few t-lok units destroyed, but they were all in excess of 500+hp and on slicks. I've been running it under a supercharger(450rwhp) and in the past nitrous without any problems. I have 4.10s, spydershaft, spec 2 clutch installed as well as running et streets at the strip, and so *far* I havn't had any issues.

RE: Differential? 4.10?
+1 to D_Guslers comments you want the FRPP - "A" gear set. If you do any longer distance driving and you have a 5spd (u didnt indicate) I'd stick with the 4.10s over 4.30s
if ur staying in the 300RWHP area (bolt ons) the rear should hold up ok. FI will blow it up sooner or later. mine started going after about 22 passes @ the track, the clutch packs started to groan, I upgraded to a trutrac when I did gears last month.

RE: Differential? 4.10?
Keep your future goals in mind.. If you plan on upping the power, running nitrous and/or money is not the issue, upgrade the differential when you change gears. Your shop should not charge you anymore labor, only the cost of the unit itself. A new Detroit LSD is ~420 and a locker $617. Lockers aren't for everyone and the new LSDs work great.
The stock unit works fine until abused at the track or the power isincreased on your motor

RE: Differential? 4.10?
Thanks for the advice gentlemen. I will def. go with the frpp "A". I had also heard some bad things about the motive parts. I think for now I will stick with the stock Dif and if needed when I upgrade to the SC I will then change it out. Hoping it would happenthis summer but new house and such I am sure you all know. BTW the car is a Auto and it is just a sunday cruiser. Sorry I did not specify.

RE: Differential? 4.10?
Just got the saleen back...wowI could not be happier with the 4.10 A gears. It was the same cost in labor to do or not do the differential so I ordered the t2. Should be all set to go now. Now I start the joy of tearing the engine apart and SC her this week :-)
