Default Alleged POWER Adders

After talking to a couple guys at brenspeed lately, I heard some things that I would like confirmation on from those people who have experienced it.

They have a supercharger that they say maintains the Ford warranty, does anyone have one or know of someone that has verified this?

Dave there also said the new Flowmasters(American Thunder), don't add any HP. On Horsepower TV they did before and after dynos and came up with just under 20 RWHP! Can anyone shed some light on this?

He said the Granetelli COPS will add virtually nothing as well. I have read hereon this forumabout someone that works at a dyno place and saidCOPS "consistently" deliver8-10 RWHP!

Wherd do we go to get the real info on these so called "power adders"? I don't have enough money to spend on mine to be throwing it away on proaganda. Is the truth out there?

The HP that axle back mufflers is negligible. The general consensus is that they add nothing. Not sure about COPs. I can almost guarantee you that they added or changed something else besides the mufflers on Horsepower TV to come up with the extra power.

The only way you're going to get significant power from the exhaust is with headers, or a different midpipe.

* Okay well you can buy a Roush supercharger and keep the Ford warranty but those are not the best blowers (roots) for efficiency. I chose a Kenne Bell and had my dealer install it. I still have a warranty. It all depends on the Ford dealer you are working with. You can buy a Saleen and have it installed a a Speedlab and you will have a Saleen warranty.
Seriously though, if you are doing heavy mods like forced induction - warranty is not at the top of your worries.
* While you may get 20 RWHP from a set of longtubes, there is no such thing as mufflers that will add noticable power. That is pretty funny. You buy mufflers (axlebacks) for the sound not the performance.
* GMS COPs are a great mod. I have run two versions and they work very well. MSD and Accell also make COPs. They improve performance on a naturally aspirated engine 7-10 RWHP but on a supercharged engine you can see 12-30 RWHP. Sure the OEM COPs will work up to 600 RWHP but these are good for some horses and really improve the way the car runs.
Here is a video about upgrading COPs on a 4-valve. It is the same result with a 3-valve.

Oh and Dave (at Brenspeed)has worked on my 2006 GT and my fox body. I will bet you money he has not tested the GMS COPs but is just shooting from the hip on that opinion. I was there last summer and Brent and Dave were going to dyno test my OEM COPs verses the GMS COPs but my car was already too hot from a dozen dyno runs and we ran out of time.
But I will make Brent test them this April when I visit him, so I will have a dyno comparison to share. There were some quality control issues on the first version of the GMS COPs, because I had several fail. They sent me a set of their new design around New Years. I put them on last night and removed the MSD COPs I was running, so I will be road testing them as soon as the roads dry here.

It will be interesting to see what kind of results you come up with. Please post when you put some miles on them.

Horsepower tv's a scam and only work for their sponsers. That's why they also used the bbk intake. A muffler swap won't gain nearly anything. Could be a plus or minus 2 hp. I don't believe in the cop gains either. Funny, how much a lie about gaining that hp. Heck, have them just throw on some long tubes and gain 10-15 hp. Let them brag about that.

I think Vortec might offer a warranty on one of their superchargers also. You have to make the decision on how much rwhp you will be satisfied with. The most powerfull rwhpsupercharger with warrantyis going to put you somewhere around 400-430 rwhp. Don't worry about the warranty. Get a Kenne Bell or Whipple H.O. and only tune it for around 450 rwhp and you will be fine, but you will have the capability to go big if you forge the bottom end down the road. I bought the Roushcharger because the warranty sounded like a good idea at the time. I was not satisfied with the power it was putting out, ditched the warranty and dumped a bunch of other bolt on's to make it fast. I have the Granetilli' coils and I was told that their is not much of a gain unless the car is FI. Good Luck!

Mufflers, as others have stated, are good for zero horsepower.

As for Granatelli's COPs, I bought them a couple of years ago when they first came out, and I couldn't tell you if they added any HP or not because they would never stay running for more than a week. I finally got fed up and put the stock COPs back on, but I will be buying the MSDs in a few weeks.

I've heard the Accel COP's are actually a little better than the MSD's and cost less... Might want to look into it a little more...

I'll do a little research on the accels, but the whole Granatelli debacle has left a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to trying out new brands. I ran MSD products on my 5.0, and they were top notch, so I will probably end up sticking to what I know in this situation.
