Default Need For Driveshaft Safety Loops

I'm dropping my '06 vert 1.3" all around (Vogtland springs) with Tokico D Specs, J&M billet LCA's and their adjustable UCA. I'm seriously looking into buying an aluminum driveshaft to be installed with all this other stuff. Along with the driveshaft I want to get at least one safety loop for protection. My question is, should I buy just the front, just the rear, or both? I've already decided on it/them being BMR because no drilling is required and both pieces look pretty rugged. The other thing I'm wondering is will they handle a 4" diameter shaft with no rubbing due to the lowering and all.

If you are only going to buy one, then get the one for the front. If the rear drops, it will only drag. If the front drops, it can catapault and flip the rear of the car.

I'm not crazy about the thought of the shaft dragging down the road either LOL. I guess I'll be getting both loops then. I thought maybe there were two for the stock two piece set up and maybe both weren't needed for a one piece but you've cleared that one up. Thanks for the input.

I've got a 4" DS and the BMR front loop, the loop fits fine.No clearance issues at all. If you're going to lower I'd go with a 3.5" DS. There are possible clearance issues with a 4" DS and lowered vehicle.

I know I'm going to hear "I am lowered with a 4" DS and don't have clearance issues" but there are people out there who have had issues.

If the shaft breaks, you need a new one regardless. I think the point in the safety loop is just so you have much less risk of dying if someting happens. Your driveshaft is going to be ruined even with a rear safety loop on top of the front one.

If you are using a one piece driveshaft, all you really need is the front loop.

NHRA require one loop on a one-piece driveshaft.
That does not mean two loops would not be a better idea.
I had my rear u-joint blow on a driveshaft at 5500 RPM in 4th gear in my 67 GTO.
When that shaft bounced off the ground, it took out the tranny, bellhousing, pinion gear and an axle and axle tube. So I had to replace the whole drivetrain behind the engine.
That would not have happened with two loops.

Wow, I guess I have to retract my previous statement, then. You aren't going to die, but that is catastrophic failure that could have been avoided. Maybe I'll consider running two loops when I buy one too.. would something like that be covered on insurance? Say, the rearend gets destroyed from the driveshaft snapping.

nothing that happens while racing is usually covered under insurance.
