Default off road x-pipes

I have an 05 GT with Bassani axle backs. I would like to install some off road x-pipes. will this make the check engine light turn on and if so is there something that I can get to turn it off? I would really like my exhaust to be louder. I am also thinking about maybe just taking off the Bassani exhaust and buying the SLP loudmouth axle backs. Any suggestions would be great.

I believe your CEL will come on eventually. You have 2 choices, get a tune to turn off the rear O2 sensor or get MIL eliminators from Brenspeed or someone else.

Yes, you will throw a CEL with a stock tune and no converters. As said above, you can either get a tune to turn them off or a set of MIL eliminators. I would suggest you get an intake and tune, it will cost more but you'll gain more from an intake and tune than you will from the O/R X-pipe.

Aren't Bassani mufflers a straight thru design? It should be plenty loud in that case. But yes, if you want it even louder loudmouths will do the trick. If you want it even louder than that your only other option is to add a set of LT headers.

I purchased the Mustang used and it already had a C&L intake but I do not know if it had a tune or not. I do not know how to find out if it had one or not. This is the first time I have had a computer controlled mustang, I have been building 69' mustangs for a while so I guess I am just used to real loud exhausts. To me the Bassani exhaust just doesn't seem that loud at all unless on full throttle. Thanks for the help.

The h-pipe will make it MUCH louder. Depending on which C&L you have, it may or may not require a tune. If you weren't given a tuner with it when you bought it, chances are it has a factory tune with a mild CAI that requires no tune.

I say, go on eBay and buy a used Diablo or SCT tuner. You can get a custom tune made for your car and install it with that, and gain horsepower out of the deal. With the tuner, even if the check engine light comes on, you can clear the DTCs and ride the car like that. My car learned to deal with it.....I haven't gotten a custom tune for my h-pipes, and the check engine light doesn't come on anymore.

You probably have the no-tune insert in the C&L which doesnt require a tune. As far as the O/R X as others have said it will throw a code. You could buy an Xcal-3 with a custom tune for the car for under $400 which will turn off the rear 02 sensors and will give you awesome power with the C&L!

The O/R X will not just make the car louder, it will make it A LOT louder. I had the bassani X and it was too loud for me and I'm a fan of loud exhaust. On cold start you will wake up the neighbor hood! The SLP's will be louder though not as loud as you'd expect for no muffler and you'll lose the tone of the exhaust. Personally and this is just me I think the bassani X with cats would make your car sound nice and loud while not being stupid. However this is just my opinion and the choice is yours
