Default 05 stock intake question

i was at the track tonight and someone told me that air was being restricted by the honeycomb looking piece inside of the intake house located after the mass air sensor. Does anyone know what exactly that honeycomb is for and if its alright that i took it out?

thanks

I am not much up on the GT stuff, but I think that is a either an intake silencer or I have also heard it is a pre-intake catalytic converter peice of some kind but now, like I say, I dont know jack about he Intakes on the GTs

It's called a "pre-catalytic converter", it's intended to catch vapors emitted from the engine after the engine has turned off. Removing it will give you about 4-5whp. It was only used on early 05 GT's.

My advice, remove it. Free horsepower.

Here's another suggestion: Buy a CAI & tune combo and gain 20-25 RWHP. What the heck are you doing at the track with a stock intake anyway??? LOL!

You're not going to come anywhere near 360hp with a Roush intake and tune. Try 320-325hp at best.

My mustang has the "precatalytic converter" and I had wondered what that was for when I installed my K&N intake. I actually stuck it back in the K&N but now that I know you don't need it, it is coming out tonight.

The intake and tune will give you a touchy gas pedal, more throttle response, but most GT's get around 285hp on the dyno.
