Thinking realistically.
I have been reading about the precautions to take when brining aboard an SC, but what about if I build the engine up before hand. Are there any substantial gains in piston, rod, and cam modifications? What is your experienced hp/tq gain? My background is with 2-stroke bikes, so natural asperation is all that I am used to, and those three afore mentioned changes can mean the world, but at a risk of overrev.
I am assuming that since rev limiters are on these cars, that it would not be an issue. I think it would be great to have a quicker car, but as I understand de-stroking an engine is not very stable, however lighter internals should show some improvement, no?
I am considering the saleen charger, and I would like to go for around 500hp to the wheels at low risk. That would mean upgraded internals as I understand. But what about the head and lower crank...can it handle the boost or am I going to blow seals or something?
I know it depends on tune and driving style/application, but perhaps I am just not understanding what is meant by a safe tune.
I would like a rough-idle cam. I guess it just raises the lift, but what a sound! The problem here, is that it would require a different tune, so would having this cam and a saleen charger conflict? How can you compensate for two different tunes?
Lots of questions, I know.
Does anyone know of a place near Rochester, NY that I could get an SC installed, or talk things over with them for that matter? I have a nice dealer out here, but I wouldn't place that much trust in them.
I have attached a pic of my 07 GT. It has functional Cervini Ram Air. Nice duct work. I hope I can work a CAI into the existing duct when I get the saleen charger.
Thanks guys...

I can actually relate to all of this for as i have done everything with an saleen s/c. First of all with the new blower cams out by comp its relatively easy to hit 500rwhp on mild boost if you plan on changing out the springs and retainers when you do the cam job. From stage 2 blower cams that are out tuners on average are seeing a 40rwhp gain by 6000 rpm and since these cams increase redline by 1000 at 6600 theres a 80rwhp gain over stock.
The cranks on these cars arent too bad at all actually for 500 and below you wont have a problem. Same with the heads. The heads themselves are actually being used on 900rwhp applications without a problem they flow very very damn good for stock heads.
Another way you could add power if you were going to mod your engine would to stroke with with forged internals. This is what i did. 298 stroker kit with the best forged internals you can by. I also bought a cobra crank and a new clutch and flywheel because of the power i wanted.
As for the duct work.. i cant really comment on this, but saleen does have an actual ram air functional hood scoop that feeds straight into the saleen s/c comming out next month and it sounds beast! i dont know if you would want something like that or not but just an option.

Hufenstang: That was a perfect post. Thank you greatly. What blower cams do you like? I think the rough idle's I saw were from BBR. Are there other high lift cams out there? Yes, I will have to go forged internals then. Thanks again!

This is Team Jdm's address and website is http://www.teamjdm.com/ . These guys are a certified saleen shop and they are the BEST in the world with the new mustangs and the saleen s/c. Everything you see tune wise and what not first come out comes straight from them and they work closely with saleen. If you dont mind traveling alittle i highly recommend scheduling a day with them for an install and tune. As far as i know a car has never blown a motor on their tune either. They also have the fastest saleen s/c car at their shop.
As for the cams Jdm as does saleen both recommend comp cams with use with the saleen blower. comp just recently came out with blower cams which are pretty amazing and give a nice idle. http://www.compcams.com/3valve/ Thats the 3 different types.. the last type giving the best gain but require springs and phaser replacement, this is what im installing this week actually. If you want to hear a clip of the stage 2 blower cams check this link out.. http://www.powerperformancetv.com/vi...l.php?mId=6536
