Trans. whine on stock car (not normal)...
Let me start by saying this is my second manual trans. mustang. I had a 2000 GT for seven years and now a 2007 GT for about a year.
I understand that there is some normal transmission whine that can be heard inside the cabin. I've heard that normal whine from the day I drove it home from the dealer brand new.
My car has recently produced a whine that can be heard with the windows down and radio off. My neighbor can hear it as I approach my driveway. It's best heard in any gear driving 30 mph or less. It can be heard with and without the clutch engaged, however, it typically appears when coasting (not accelerating).
I'm 100% positive it's not coming from the rear. I have done gear swaps in the past and I'm familar with rear gear whine. It's not that, plus, my car is stock from a drivetrain standpoint. It clearly sounds like it coming from the under the front/middle of the car just behind the motor.
The car has 11K miles and it's been making this noise for the last 1K miles. The transmission operates completely normal.
I can also eliminate the motor (belt whine) from making the noise because I turned off the car and coasted with the clutch disengaged of course. It still makes the noise with the engine turned off the car coasting. I don't hear it at high speeds simply because there's too much road/wind noise.
Could this be the throw out bearing going bad? Bad synchro? I'm at a loss and just like to be informed before having to deal with the local Ford techs.
