Default the infamous 3rd gear grind

My 08 GT has barely 3k miles, started grinding 3rd gear when cold about 500 miles ago. Took it in to the dealer and amazingly they found what I was talking about. They had the car for about a week and I just picked it up again yesterday! They replaced my 1-2 and 3-4 syncros and some sort of O-ring if I remember right without going out to my car and looking at the service slip. While out on the road today guess what? yep - grinded 3rd gear again, awesome. I have every intention of calling them back up and dumping the car again on Monday but man what a pita, I bought the car to enjoy not to anticipate its every shop return.

Any idea's what is wrong now with it having fresh syncros and all?

If you do enough searches on this you'll see that what happened to you is quite common. Meaning the syncro replacement did not work. What has been the ultimate fix has been a replacement of the entire transmission. Unfortunately the TSB doesn't say this but that has been what has been working. I have an '08 GT with less than 400 miles and the 2nd-3rd grind since day one when cold. I usually do 2nd to 4th the first few shifts (I have 3.73 gears installed already so 4th doesn't lug too much) and by then 2nd to 3rd doesn't grind. But I'll be bringing my car in the next month or 2 for the grind too.

Happend to me, would grind 2nd and 3rd when cold, also sitting still pushing in the clutch and going straight to third. If you pushed the clutch in and waited a few seconds it wouldn't do it, so they thought it was a clutch problem. Car is an '08 w/ 5700 miles on it. so they changed clutch disc, pressure plate, slave cyl. and bled the system.........still did it! changed synchros...........still did it! They then call the "Ford Tech Hotline" and they told them to change out the "gear blocks" .......that seedmed to take care of it, but I park my car over the winter, so I only drove it home from the dealership. Spring and next fall will know for sure. But at the moment I would say it is a problem and the solution seems to be replacing all of the guts inside the tranney!
