Default 08 Spark Plugs

I have searched the forum for a definite answer and could not find it. I read alot on the breaking spark plug issue and in those threads they stated that the plugs were fixed midyear 2008. When I lookup spark plug part numbers, there is a definite diference between 05-07 and 08-09. There is no mention to check build dates or anything for 08s. Do all 08s have the new spark plugs or do some still have the 05-07 type? Please advise...

Thanks,

My understanding is the change was made mid '08. I have heard that the old style plugs will have black coils, and the new ones have brown. I don't know if this is true, but mine do happen to be brown and I have the new style plugs being an 09... You can tell by build date also, I'm just not sure what the cut-off is.

Someone posted on another forum that his 08 built 11/07 had the new plugs. Check the engine label on the drivers side cam cover. If it ends in AA old style heads & plugs, if it ends in AB new style heads & plugs.

Well, 07/07 build date, black coils, and AA engine label. All leads to old style heads with possible issues ahead. Thanks for all the info and helping me figure it out. I've got 16K on her now so I should be in pretty good shape when I pull the plugs out and coat with nickel anti-seize. I'll be sure to follow the TSB when extracting.

Good luck, and don't be too scared. I pulled mine at 47200 and not a single one broke. I've never run 93 octane and only fuel injector cleaner about 3 times in the last year. Just soak the hell outta those plugs with some carb and throttle body cleaner.

My engine label ends in AB and my car's build date is 12/07... Guess I don't have to worry about the plugs for now.
