Custom Backspacing Question?

Custom Backspacing Question?
I've found a company that makes the old school Magnum 500 rim with custom backspacing. They make this rim in a 17x8 with a backspace range between 4.125" to 5.75". My question to all the techies, would a 17x8 rim with a backspace of 5.75 inches fit a 2007 GT both front and rear?
Also, this is a very retro looking rim and I like the more sidewall than wheel rim look, so would a 16x8 rim with the same backspace work as well.
ALL comments would be greatly appreciated. I've found inconsistent information cruising the net regarding max and min backspace ranges for the 2005+. One site says it will fit, another doesn't. IT'S MIND-NUMBING!
