2009 <700 miles 2nd gear noise
New mustang owner here, 09 GT premium with <700 miles. Im not an expert by all means, but Im not afraid to ask for help if Im not sure about something...
So here goes!
Ive been noticing lately that while shifting and holding in 2nd gear, that is just sounds like (example only!LOL) a bad bearings on a shaft spinning. It seems to resonate through the shifter but dissapears in all other gears.
2nd always seems to be the loudest. And I can feel it in the shifter.
Is this the clutch Im feeling/hearing? and or normal? or possibly something else?
Or is this just normal?
Just sounds odd to me...

Possible Dealership response: "It's designed to make that noise so you know you're in 2nd gear. Also, any other grinding plus gut-wrenching noises are design safety features..."
Sorry. My cynicism towards stealerships is showing...

Well, its not LOUD, but I can just hear it when the radio is off and its real quiet in the car.
Could one of you just listen for it? Turn it all down and off and listen to second...see if its the exhaust resonating or just simple mechanical sounds....
I hope its nothing! LOL

There have been some reports of heat shield vibrations or pipe clamp looseness causing a very annoying rattle at certain RPM's; typically 1800-2200 if I recall. I had the exhaust clamp issue that was resolved by additional torquing.
Sorry, but I can't go check mine in 2nd since it's not my DD and I'm at work. Besides, I have my intake pulled off...

first our gears in the trans are straight cut for strength witch causes more sound,
second our syncros are crap and it could be going as there is a tsb for them
to diagnosis this tsb shift while trans is cold (first sift) it will clunk/ grind when it goes into gear. how do i know i hate my trans as i have the same issue. Im gonna pull the trans and send it to D&D for a overhaul... Built for 800 HP

My second gear is louder than the others as well. Nothing to really do to fix it as such, unless you want to pay to replace it. I'll bet Ford calls it 'within normal limits'. I 'fixed' mine by adding some sound absorber under the floor console. Went to a fabric store and picked up some polyester batting. The thickest stuff I could find was about an inch thick. one layer of that and I haven't heard the trans gear whine since.
