Amsoil's ASM 0W20 is their recommended oil for the S197 4.6L engines.

It does take 5W-20 but you can put 0W-20 in without a problem. Ditto on 5W-30. Both of them will work fine. Technically it's a violation of the warranty but the chances of being denied a claim are about 1/1000.

If it were me I'd put the 5W-30 in that car. Especially if you run it hard in a hot climate.

they are both "20 wt" when at operating temp
the zero is the weigh when cold that is all
mobil one is jumping on the zero weight band wagon now, always trying to play catchup.

I just ordered some 5w20 XL synthetic for my new '10 GT: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlm.aspx

I would fear any potential reason for Ford to deny a warranty by not using their exact viscosity recommendation. Even paranoids have real enemies.

It appears to be fully synthetic, unless I'm missing something. I'm looking to switch over from motorcraft's blend at about 500 miles, after a reasonable break-in, along with a K/N (HP2010).

Obviously a noob to this site, but looking forward to learning about the new pony from all the experienced folks here.

The Amsoil Ea nanofiber technology oil filter is far better than a K&N, in my opinion.

+1 on the Amsoil Ea filter. I use the Ea filters which are rated for 15,000 miles plus the Amsoil ASM 0W20 and am comfortable with my 8k-10k mile change intervals. I've been using M1 oil and filter in my SUV (tow vehicle also on the 8k-10k change interval) but will be switching it over to Amsoil.
