HMMM, wierd noise between shifts
My car is making an odd noise every now and then when I shift from 1-2 and occasionally from 3-4. The noise is kind of odd; the sound is similar to taking a hand full of steel bearings and pouring it in a metal pan. It seems to do it more often under moderate acceleration, not light or heavy (Normal driving with a mustang). I took it to the dealer twice now and they can't verify that there is a noise and can't find anything out of place. It seems to me that the noise comes from the trany but it's hard to tell. I have 34,000 mile on her right now and it started making the noise at about 20,000. Now that my warranty is closer to expiring I want to get it fixed at the rate I drive I still have a good 3 months before I'll drive that many miles. Wondering if anyone else on the Forum has had anything similar. Thanks for any help

Yeah it's the original clutch still, (and yeah my wife does drive it but she learned on my old car LOL that was an experience. I traded that one in though, no offense to the female drivers). I was thinking the clutch might be wearing, but it's so intermitent. That's what bogles me. Most of my cars have been manuals and when the clutch's would go out some would chatter, but it was consistent. It still grabs fine and everything, the only thing I have noticed is when letting the clutch out it has a small dead spot; when letting the clutch out it starts to engage then you let it out alittle more and it's got nothin and alittle more and it's got full grab. Makes it hard to take off smothly in first that's for sure. Dealership pulled it apart and couldn't find anything out of place. I might try a different shop or something.

It's also possible that the engine is pinging under those conditions. You can test this by either switching to another brand of gas, or using a higher octane gas. If higher octane gas reduces or eliminates the noise, then dump a can of Seafoam into the tank immediately prior to filling up, and see if the noise goes away after 100-200 miles when using the original octane gas. If so, then the cause was carbon build up inside noe or more combustion chambers.

Does it only do it during a shift, or do you hear it sometimes during acceleration as well? If so, it could possibly be something to do with the bell housing. There is a TB for it, and I am taking mine in for the same issue.

Occasionally I'll hear it during acceleration when I'm hitting around 4000 RPM+ and it's not as audible. But mainly I just hear it during shifts and It is very loud I'm talk'in it echos back at you off of buildings loud. Almost embarrassing if you know what I mean
