Post Can I use 93 octane fuel in my 08 Mustang GT

Hello. I have a 2008 Mustang GT and I was wondering if i could use 93 octane fuel, or can I only use rugular fuel. My car is stock.

Thanks

Regular is what the car is rated for. Ford dealers have told me that if you add 93 octane it'll be bad for the car, but they also thought my engine was pinging when it was a TSB for the engine/transmission plate. I say get an Intake/Tune package and put in 93 octane and enjoy the car that much more.

Only Bullitt and 2010+ Mustangs benefit from running 93 octane fuel. Running higher octane fuel in a stock Mustang won't do a thing. It won't hurt anything either.

+1 on getting tuned for 93 octane

Well, not in the short term, but I believe running 93 in the long term will foul the crap out of your cats and cause premature failure of your plugs. That is unless you get it tuned for 93

But uhhh, yeah, get a 93 tune. Lots of extra power to be had.

I ran 93 octane when my car was stock for 10,000 miles. Plugs were fine and the cats were fine when I removed them. The computer is calibrated for 87 octane, running 93 octane won't hurt a thing; but the PCM won't advance the timing to take advantage of the extra octane.

A tune package is really an Intake/tuner combo that can be purchased from many vendors. (You could just get the tuner but the gains are much more significant when paired with an intake)

http://www.brenspeed.com/3000jlt2.html

That is one example. In this case the tuner will come with tunes for 93, 91 or 89, and 87 octanes. Besides the obvious hp/torque gains, there is a large increase in throttle response among other things.

Just fuel-up with 87 octane and mail me the difference between the 87 and 93 (minus the postage, of course). Unless you're tuned for it, you'll notice no difference on the stock tune using anything higher than 87 octane.
