Brake sizes
Eddie - I don't know about clearance, but if this is designed to be a performance issue, I would strongly suggest that you do a search in the handling section for this issue before spending money on this. There has been a TON of discussion on the limited "actual" performance increases larger brake kits provide over there.

I will not throw the weekend warrior crap at you man. If you want to upgrade go for it.
Fitting big brakes with 18s can have clearance issues. You can get a template on most of the brake manufacturers web sites. This way you can print it and see if there will be any clearance issues with your rims.

18 inches is part of the clearance situation of the rim but you have to consider offset (how far out your rim will have to be to clear the calipers). I would say any other caliper you get will affect the offset, meaning you might need spacers. If you dont know your offset take it to a rims and tire shop. Take it from me I have learned the hard way.
Remember you only need the width of one playing card between the caliper and the rim itself....you should be able to get a template from the manufacture that you choose should you go with the big brake kit. This has been debated in the past but no one can tell me that they don't help if you upgrade everything like the pads, change to SS lines, and change to a Hi-performance brake fluid. Changing the rotors alone wont give the benefits of better braking. IMO its the combination of parts that will benefit you in the long and short run. The greater surface area you will have less brake fade then with the stock rotors.....thats open to debate but I really do not want to discuss it as there are many threads on this.
I have a 2005 Mustang GT and I've never been happy with the factory brakes. To me, they have seemed downright scary at high speeds and they FADE very easily after one or two hard stops. 2 weeks ago I had my mechanic upgrade my 2005 Mustang Gt brakes to the GT500 Brembo 14" upgrade kit that's available thru Ford Racing.... I purchased the kit from Joe Heck Racing on Ebay for $1150.00. The kit comes with 14" rotors, new 4 piston Brembo calipers for the front wheels, stainless steel lines and pads for all 4 calipers. I decided to scratch the 14" rotors and the pads that came with the kit. I purchased 4 new slotted/drilled (14" front, stock diameter for back of car) rotors, Hawk HPS pads and Motul fluid from Stang Suspension. My mechanic installed the whole thing for $200.00. I changed my wheels to the 18" Shelby CS69's which work PERFECTLY with this big brake kit...
My experience since the brake upgrade ??? OMG, I feel like I'm driving a different car. I've had numerous performance cars over the years (I'm over 50) and I can honestly say that I've never had a car that stopped as quick or fade free.. I don't race the car on any tracks but I can tell you that this system is UNREAL for street driving.. It's one of the best upgrades I've done to my car so far.. Happy camper here.. good luck... Mark

I have to agree, after owning my car now for about a year and a half, i have come to the conclusion that the stock brakes are some of the worse i have felt on a stock car lately. I do not know what an upgrade will do to an s197, but when i upgraded my 1996 gts stock brakes to a svt 13" cobra brake set up the change in performance was insane. Fullsayl has a good point though. I went with a system for my 96 that was proven by ford svt engineers, and when (and i will soon) upgrade my s197 brakes i will most likely go with the gt500 brake set up. The issue their is making sure that the wheel will clear the gt500 brakes.
By the way fullsayl, the car looks killer. i have two questions... what springs are you using, and what mods did you do to get her to that rwhp #???
