Default gear install info..

Is the rear end installation of gears a straight forward install?? no surprises, nothing special to it? just your usual straight forward installation of gears?

getting 4.10s done next week.. it's about time!

I am having a place install it on Monday. They asked me if the rear end was any different then the 05-07s because they is nothing on the 08s online... they certainly quoted me with the best price so far..

I just want to hurry up and get it done so I can have enough time to break them in just right for the summer..

The install on the S197s must be much more precise than on the older generations for some reason. They have to be set up perfect or else they whine like crazy. If the shop has done other S197s, there is no difference in the rear end from year to year besides the stock gear ratio changing from 3.55 to 3.31 on some cars.

^^ thanks,
I will make sure to tell them. I suppose they though it was different year to year because of different the 2010s were and also how new the 08s are being that they couldn't find anything online about the rear end...

Mine go in tomorrow morning. I'm crossing my fingers for a trouble-free install. The shop has been around like 17 years and seems to have done a good install on my Vortech, since the car still works.

are you gonna do the 500 mile break in time or the 3 heat cycles?

I am gonna be a wuss and do the 500 mile break in period lol.

I don't want any whine from these gears!

I was going to ask the shop what they recommend. Unfortunately it takes me about 3 months to put 500 miles on the car. I know I won't be able to wait THAT long. The stock gears sure as hell didn't get 500 miles worth of babying or proper heat cycling. It seems to me if the gears are installed correctly, that they shouldn't be that delicate, but what do I know?

I've seen posts from people saying they did the break-in and still have whine, and I've seen posts from people saying they did a burnout out of the shop parking lot and don't have any. This leads me to believe its all about the install... Unless the shop can convince me that some sort of ritual is required, I'm probably just going to drive it normally. I don't beat the car much anyway...

Mishri just got his done and the installer told him to just take it easy for a few days. No whine on his and I know he's got on it a few times since the install.

Why don't you just put some fuel in that tank and take it for a couple nice long drives Mud? That's what it's for.
