Gear changes?

Gear changes?
Has anyone went back from 4.10s (namely with the automatic) back to either stock or 3.73 gears?
I love the 4.10s, wanted to test them out, they are great for acceleration overall and at the track- but the 2 hour drive, there and back at 3k is killing me! lol.
Apparently not everyone agrees with me going 60 mph the entire way at 1500, trying to save gas as well as engine strain.
Looking to go back, possibly to stock or considering the 3.73s.
I heard that not everyone thinks the 3.73s are worth it because they don't make that much of a difference, though most seem to like the 3.73s over stock.
..OOORRR I might just put in 3.27s and just wait it out til the supercharger next summer...

I've never run 4.10's but just recently moved from 3.31 to 3.73. Now at the same time I added 13rwhp, but the difference in acceleration was fantastic- much much more than I can attribute to an additional 13rwhp and 6rwtq. Again, I can't speak from experience on the 4.10's, but 3.73's are definitely good to go.

I had 4.10's in my 2000 Mustang GT and I would have liked to go to 3.55's. The 4.10's made the car a blast to drive around town, but I got tired of them on the highway. It's a lot of gear on the highway.
My current car has 3.55 and the 3V motor can handle a bit more gear, but I would only go to 3.73. The cost and possible gear whine is just not worth it though. I wish I could have ordered the car with 3.73 like you can today.

how much bigger? I have brand new summer tires I just got, would be a shame to get a new set already... I had planned DRs but not yet, and not at only 270whp lol.
I was thinking 275/45/r18s, but not even sure if they would be worth it.. gears and installation would be about the same price thuogh more trouble...
shiet, gotta go.. just clocked out of work!

295/45/18 would be just under 28.5 inches. Stock is about 27.
So that size there would drop 4.10 down to 3.90 since the rpms would be 100 less.
But in your case it may not be worth it since you just got new tires.

dang it, I wish I had known that sooner. These tires were free of charge because the tire place I went to accidently gave me back the wrong set of summer tires when I did my last winter tire change over lol.
If I had considered the size/gear ratio etc. I would have gone with larger tires...
I'd rather have bigger all around so I am still able to rotate them...

My car is in the shop as I write this getting the 4.10's swapped to 3.73's. I love the 4.10s and I never go on the highway, but I figured I needed a taller gear with the supercharger.. Mine's a 5 speed that came with 3.55's.
