Default Does the Whipple 550HP w/ Intercooler work in an auto?

I know it says "For MANUAL only" but does anyone know if it works in an automatic? If not, can you explain to me why.

Yes- it works for an AUTO......not sure what has to be done but call Whipple and they can get you started.....I have a manual but they just have not updated the site for the AUTO drivers...esp since you have an 06. I cant imagine why it says that other then for tuning purposes which an aftermarket tuner can write a safe tune for an AUTO...change the shift points and adj the stall etc....maybe thats the difference the Procal tool they send is for manual's only?
anyone else have any ideas?

Maybe they think it is pushing too much power through the stock auto trans? Don't see why it wouldn't work with an auto.

It will bolt up no problem, the issue is with the transmission. The 5r55s uses bands to shift gears so constant high abuse can result in failure quickly so FRPP does not make a tune for it. MM&FF magazine put a gen 1 Whipple H.O. on an auto with a custom tune and the car ran extremely well. You may want to contact them and see who there tuner was.

It'll work with the auto just fine. The reason Ford doesn't sell it is cause they feel like the auto won't hold up to the extra power for a long period of time. You can order the manual kit, but you'll need a custom tune for it.

It has been proven that the AUTO trans can and will hold the extra HP from the Whipple.....in time you may need to upgrade some of the internals and a guy in CA does that all the time for the serious track guys running over 550 RWHP

Good to hear because I plan on getting one in a few months and I am an AUTO, maybe I will get trans upgrade pack with the better input shaft as well, should be good, and if not then to hell with it and get a new trans, hell already dropping 8K for SC, why not another 2 or 3K for bulletproof tranny, its just $$$$$ lol

I am wanting to do the samething but the tranny is what I am worried about. I do keep hearing of more people using them tho and the trans holding up. Mine isnt a DD so its not to big of a deal. I just didnt want to shell out that much for the blower then trash the trans.

Like I said in an earlier post it will bolt up but you will need a separate tune for the transmission, however FRPP just introduced the 47HP kits for Auto trans Mustangs. It's intercooled like the 550HP just tuned down for auto's.

Looks like they just dropped the boost as it is X out. By this spring when I am ready for mine they will probably have something different, either way it will be the Whipple.
