Fuel Pump Module
Has anybody changed they're fuel pump? How bad a job is it? I have a reg. factory service manual for my '06 GT. They talk about having to drain the tank, but what if I just ran it almost empty wouldn't that work? Is just remove the lock ring, electrical connector, fuel hose , lift unit out and reverse? Or is there more to it?
The only part that I am not sure about is the fuel line disconnects. The rest seems pretty basic. I have the plastic tool set I bought to change the fuel filter, it has several "C" shaped discs of different sizes. Is this all I need?
i replaced my pump a couple of years ago
and i don't remember needing any tools to
disconnect the lines.
you disconnect the line on top of the hat
and also the one on the pump assembly
itself, which comes over from the
passenger side.
if i'm mistaken, hopefully someone will weigh
in.

The worse thing I remember about replacing the fuel pump was, 10lb of doodoo into a 5lb hole.
Other than that just take your time, be sure of every move and you'll be fine indeed. Dont forget to replace the oring.

I replaced mine for the TSB. I did it earlier this year and I'm so glad I no longer have the hesitation issue.
It wasn't too bad to do but a little of a pain at times. I did let my tank go down to about 1/4 or so. The worst part about it was the hole in the tank doesn't even come close to lining up with the hole in the body. So that made it a lot more annoying than it should have been.
Ford has a special tool for the lock ring but it's very expensive. All you need is a brass punch (or something else hard that will not cause sparks!). Also make sure and buy a new o-ring seal at the dealer. My old one looked ok but it's best to replace it anyway.
