Default Autometer boost gauge reading wrong?

My autometer boost guage seems to be always at 20 give or take. I'm sure thats not normal. What would the problem be? The guage or the sensor?

mechanical or electrical

if mechanical maybe the tubing is kinked
somewhere

check the wiring and fuse

sorry I wasnt specific with the type. It's a Sport-Comp II Series: Boost / Vacuum, so it's electrical, not mechanical.

hey pbguy, where are you getting the
12vdc for the red power wire?

i believe it needs to be a source that stays
on while the engine is cranking up.

This spot provides 12V at key-on-engine-off and it stays at 12V during cranking. Some other places on the car with 12V turn off during cranking and then back on after the engine is running.

Also, before starting the car pause a few seconds at key-on-engine-off until the gauge zero's itself.

Thats where my power is coming from Looks exactly like that. I havn't tried leaving the key on until it zeros, I'll try it.

It zeros corectly with just the ignition in but as soon as I crank it, it reads 20 or so. When I get on it, it reads the right lbs of boost but as soon as I let it idle it reads at that 20. never 0.

it might actually be close. if it's reading
-20 while idling, then that would be very
close for a vacuum reading. with stock
cams, mine read -23.

if it goes to the correct boost psi when
WOT, then maybe it's ok.

That sounds correct. Should read 20 or less at idle, 0 under throttle but barely not enough throttle to get into boost*, and when you're in boost it reads whatever the boost is.
