Default help with UDP install

Hey all,

Trying to install my UDP's. Can not for the life of me remove the harmonic balancer bolt. I'm using an impact gun, and have turned the air up to 120psi and still the bolt will not budge. I've soaked the bolt with pb blaster too, but still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I did try a breaking bar, however I was not able to loosen it. The motor turned over for about a 1/4 revolution, but even then it would not break loose. I have the car in gear, e-brake pulled, and even the wheels chocked. Still nothing. I'm a little hesitant about the breaking bar because if the socket slips off and I strip the head then I'm really screwed.

I'll try again though if you think this is my best option. I only have a regular breaking bar (about 12"). I'll have to try and find a piece of pipe to get more leverage I suppose.

I used a breaker bar, and it worked fine for me. Took quite a bit of force though. One other tip is to place the transmission in reverse. The force kept overpowering the parking brake in first. Using reverse helped tremendously.

You need to use more pressure, like 150psi, if your compressor is capable of it. If still no luck, borrow or buy a more powerful impact. Wal-mart has one that makes 450 ftlbs for about 75.00. That should take it right off. And make sure you use a 6-point impact socket, not a standard 11-point.

Thanks guys. I'll try the above suggestions. I may buy the wal mart impact just to tell people I can put 450lbs of force on bolts. ha ha. Let's hope one of these suggestions works.

what you can also do is put the socket in the bolt with a breaker bar and let the breaker bar handle end on the floor and give your engine a few bumps dont start it and it should losin right up

I was just going to suggest this. I used this method to pop off the hramonic bolt out of an LS motor when every impact gun I could find didnt work. I braced it against the frame, though I suppose the floor would work if the breaker bar is long enough.

Just bump it though. Dont go crazy.

I used a breaker bar and had the car in 5th. You need to have the trans in the highest gear to prevent the car from rolling. Take a floor jack handle extension and slide it over the breaker bar to increase the length.
