Have you noticed any brown foam on the inside top of your oil cap, overheating or oil in your coolant reservoir? Possible loss of coolant w/o a noticeable leak COULD be a head gasket problem.

When my thermostat broke, coolant was being regurgitated out through my coolant reservoir cap slowly depleting what coolant was in the reservoir. I think what happened was that my thermostat got too hot and decided to malfunction. That could be the problem. Could also be ten other things though....

My wife has an '06 GT and I believe this is exactly what is happening to hers. It randomly overheats and seems to lose coolant through the reservoir cap. How hard is it to replace the thermostat ? I've done it on other cars, but never a Mustang. Will I have to take it to the stealership ?

It's easy, located between the motor and the fan on the right side when you are looking at the motor from the front. I beleive it's an 8mm bolt on each side. Pay attention to how the thermostat comes out and make sure you find the O ring when you take it apart. Should take 10-15 minutes, inlucing refilling with fluid and running your car.
