TSB 09-12-12 / Transmission problem
I have a 2005 GT, auto with about 36,000 miles. The CEL came on, and the car was shifting funny, especially when coasting. I took it in, and the non-dealer shop came up with TSB 09-12-12, which has to do with servo pin bore wear causing the problem. They gave me options of fixing it by replacing soft parts, or putting in a whole new transmission. (Susrprisingly, the cost difference between the two options was only about $600.00,
The Ford dealer gave me a much lower cost option (half the cost of a new tranny), but didn't even mention the TSB, or the fact that this is a known problem with this year's transmission that could recur. I get the feeling they just want to put a bandaid on the problem so I have to come back in later and spend more $$$.
I am trying to decide what to do. On the one hand, I'd like to spend less money, but on the other hand, I don't want to just repair a faulty transmission that will eventually have the same problem again.
Has anyone had any experience with fixing this TSB? I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around replacing a tranny that is only 5 years old with only 36,000 miles on it.
Any input would be welcomed. I do not have the skill to fix this problem myself, so I have to use a shop.

Personally, reading the TSB it appears the failure is from a lack of pressure and supposedly this "fix" takes care of that... Not really a bandaid as far as I can tell (if this TSB was not previously accomplished on your ride). I would go that route, but ask the dealership about that specific TSB and whether they would be following those directions to accomplish this repair.
Question... Did this repair shop indicate whether they would be putting in another 5R55 auto transmission? Could this problem exist even in a replacement tranny? Most likely the replacement would be a rebuilt unit, so could this defect still exist in the new(er) unit?
I think if you ask about whether the new unit might suffer the same fate, you may find your answer.
