Default FRPP Power UpGrade Package Tuner

Have the FRPP Power Upgrade Package installed on my 2009 GT/CS Convertible. This package includes the FRPP CAI, FRPP Mufflers and handheld tuner. It was an easy install and seems to run good with a little deeper exhaust note and a few extra ponies too.

I just ordered the FRPP 62MM instake (love that billet chrome) and FRPP X-pipe and need to know if the FRPP tuner can handle or adjust for these two new upgrades or do I need to get an SCT or Diablo tuner to maximize my investment???

I'm new to the Forum so I appreciate any input from the group.

Thanks

You will need to contact the 800 number that comes with the Ford ProCal tool to give them a list of what you are adding so they can add it to the tune when you send the tool back to them for programming. From my understanding, as long as its FRPP they can make all the changes without any problems.

Just so you know. FRPP tunes are very conservative. On average you probably will leave up to about 50% of the available upgrade power on the table if you use their tunes.

If you do get SCT or Diablo, get it from Brenspeed or American Muscle and they will hook you up with some really good tunes with different Octanes. If you have an Auto tranny AM now has Bama brand tunes that are supposed to really be awesome for automatics.

If you are manual tranny, you can't go wrong with either.

Too bad you didn't search the forum before buying.

The FRPP tune provides about 10-15 LESS RWHP than custom tunes from AM or Brenspeed. If I recall, the FRPP CAI you're referring to is a K&N drop-in. If so, toss it out. If it's really the FRPP CAI (cone style filter), then you have a good stepping stone for additional power with a custom tune.

The FRPP oil filter is no better than the OE Motorcraft oil filter and provides no power increase.

The FRPP mufflers, like any axleback, provide no additional power and only a mild increase in exhaust note.

Your net gain: approx 15 HP CRANK which is about 12 RWHP.

I'd get a SCT X3
and get a tune from American Muscle or Brenspeed.
Just tell them your mods. You are trying to get more HP and
Trq so don't half *** do it.

And like stated before the FRRP tunes are very conservative.
I would not look to them for CAI/Tune

FRRP have great gears, cams and other things though!

I would get a SCT with tune from AM or Brenspeed. I would also take that FRPP X and send it back, huge waste of money IMO. It just splices in and converts the H to a X but maintains factory cats. Your not going to really see any gain from that. Maybe 1-3 up top but not worth the money. Instead take taht money and put it towards a Hi flow X pipe, so you actualy get hi flow cats in there.

It's not there for a power increase, it has a higher rupture point than standard oil filters. A friend of mine ruptured his standard oil filter at the track this year. Not only did it oil down the track, it also sent him sideways at over 100mph when he passed over his own oil slick.

Edit Found a data sheet for the oil filter.

I'm assuming you have a new pro-cal that uses an sd card for the tune. Please report back on if they do a tune for you. When I was running the frpp tune on my Whipple they were really good about making changes for me. All they had to do was send out a new sd card. With that said you would be better off following some of the advice already given and get an sct with custom tunes or better yet find a reputable tuner.

You probably won't notice a difference in driveablilty when the frpp tb is installed. I put mine and and drove to the tuner (60 miles away) with no issues. I can't remember what he tweaked on the tune. In my case I picked up alot of power under the curve meaning peak numbers weren't affected too much but averages went up throughout the rpm range.

Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

I wasn't aware of the burst pressure difference. Thanks, Bruce. Although I doubt that any but the more serious track folk would benefit.

Thanks for all the info guys!! I went with the FRPP stuff just to keep everything under warranty initially. I like the deep/mild sound of the FRPP mufflers but may eventually go to Magnaflow to get the straight through exhaust flow and a little more sound. I have one on another vehicle and really like the Magnaflow sound on it.

I believe I do have the card in the back of the FRPP handheld tuner, but I am leaning toward getting a SCT tuner with the Bama tunes. I was wondering if I just go with the 91 Octane race tune is there a need for a custom tune??

I would also like to add the FRPP Hi-Rise intake but I called the 800 number and they told me that it will not fit under my Shelby tower strut brace, and I would really like to keep it. Looks great in the engine bay and keep the vehicle steering tight too.

Anyone tried the Hi-Rise intake yet??

A 91 octane tune from us is probably going to be the best bet. I'm very partial to the race tune, and I daily drive it, as most people do. Some like the throttle response, but some find it to be a little too much for bumper-to-bumper traffic situations. It's all a matter of preference.

It's going to be a night and day difference from that ProCal tool. I think you'll be quite surprised.
