I just installed a wideband A/F gauge today. So I'm driving home tonight and all the sudden the car just quit, no power, no nothing? I was able to get to the side of the road and all that worked were the flashers, ambient lighting and map lights. When I turned the key in the ignition to "ON", nothing, no dash lights, wouldn't turn over, likes it's dead. Any ideas on what's wrong?
Did you check your battery cables? You may also want to check out your main car fuse, IIRC it's in the engine compartment fuse box, it'll be the largest amp rating one there.
Oh, also if your car just died your alternator/charging system may have a problem. If something along those lines died your car would run off the battery for as long as it could then completely die.
Maybe I should think some more before replying to your post three separate times...if only some electrical things aren't working, then perhaps a fuse elsewhere is to blame. I say check all fuses (in engine bay and next to passenger's right foot) and report back
What I don't get is the gauge was working, I'm cruising down the interstate and then "BAM", everything shut's down. I pull over and the flashers and map lights work, and that's it. It's not the battery, I just don't know enough about the electronics to know why the whole car would shut down like that. No warning, nothing.
We grounded to the chassis and I was just reading on the innovative site that you should ground to the engine block. Could improper grounding cause an electrical problem with the car?
