Got 4.10's in - DANG what a difference!
#22
Just ordered my 4.10s from AM last night, took a trip up to Brenspeed today to get a quote/install date. My wallet hurts thinking about it (quoted me $500 labor) but at least I know i'll be taken care of. I got the master install kit w/bearings but did not get the rebuild kit, here's hoping I won't need it.

I was quoted $500 by the guy I'm going to have do the install
and that was if I had him provide all the parts
I'll be buying the trutrak and the ring and pinion aswell as the fulid and just to be extra safe the limited slip additive

For those with 4.10s and a manual, how is 1st gear for every day driving? With the stock 3.55s, I feel like 1st is a bit short (not bad for launching, but a bit hard to drive smoothly under light acceleration). I'm thinking about 4.10s because 2nd and 3rd are WAAAAY too tall (not as much fun driving as it could be because by the time it's pulling hard in 2nd and I'm ready to hit 3rd, I'm speeding and need to slow down...). I'm kinda worried that for more normal driving (i.e. w/ a passenger) I'd have to skip 1st most of the time because it would be even more jerky if taking off normally.

4.10's are a piece of cake in 1st gear for every day driving.
Had them on the 06GT
This is not a problem. Not even for most people that slap on twin screw superchargers.
No worries bro.
As long as you get them installed at a reputable shop that does a good job, the 4.10's are pure joy my friend.

4.10's are great in a manual, Love mine!
I am probably 50% highway driving (70MPH) 30% back road driving (50MPH) and 20% City Driving (everyone get outta my way dang it), average just under 23MPG according to the computer, which is up from 19MPG when the car was stock. Zeroed everything out before a highway trip one time, averaged just under 25MPG, was 99% highway (70MPH).
I didn't gain all that much in the 1/4 mile though, .2 difference from the 3.31's (of course the air can change my car .3 on any given day).
I typically use 1st to take off just because I like to hear my exhaust :-) but no problem taking off in 2nd with very little to no gas.

I've had 4.10s for a while now and I'd say my average MPG on the highway going about 75 is just under 21 MPG. Slow that down to 70 and I think I could get 22 or so. FWIW I had my gears installed for $600 parts and labor.
