Need help with startup problem
Well the o-ring replacement did not fix it. I did confirm that my kit had the wrong o-ring in it to start with. I know this much, the problem is only in open loop at startup, after it goes closed loop all is perfect. It does not matter if the engine is cold or hot, you have to wait for it to get out of open loop. I checked with the one guy locally that could data-log itr for me and he will only do it on his dyno and wants $200.00 to do it or he will custom tune on the dyno for $500.00-$600.00. I fear if I spend the money to data-log it and send it to Brenspeed, they will say it's fine and I will be no farther ahead. I'm thinking about just letting the guy (great reputation) dyno tune it for me, so I have a local tuner to go to with problems. I'm frustrated to say the least....just want to have my car working right and safe. One of my biggest concerns, even though I have not seen a problem yet is that I beleive it runs in open loop at WOT and I sure don't want it to go lean then. Any ideas for what could cause it to go lean in open loop? I think it just operates off of MAF and temeperature sensors in open loop, and they seem to be good. I have no codes at any time.
Thanks,
Jim

open loop means the PCM ignores front oxygen sensor feedback and controls
ignition timing (spark) and injector pulsewidth based on data tables within the
tune. closed loop means the PCM controls injector pulsewidth, based on the front oxygen sensor feedback in order to achieve the desired air fuel ratio.
if there are no vacuum leaks (manifold, oil separator, etc..) then i have to go
with this being a tune issue. i'm not saying brenspeeds tune is bad, it's just that it may not be close enough for your particular configuration.
there's a chance that getting a dyno tune will help, because the tuner may use
different base tables to build up the tune, but there's no guarantee. is it worth
the shot? probably.
Thanks hammeron! I can't find any vac leaks and the vac gauge is steady as a rock. Usually if you have a vac leak the needle will flutter. Also a vac leak would rear it's ugly head after it goes closed loop I would think. I am cautious as I know I could spend the money for a local custom dyno tune and still have the problem...if they can't tune it out.
I datalogged my problems for brenspeed but my car was not acting up like it had in the past. So the dataloggs I did were worthless. I didnt bother doing another one since I was taking it to them for a install. They have had it for awhile now and got me worked out. So id say ur on the right track going to a dyno. good luck man
I am picking it up when I get back from work next tuesday. Im excited to see how this stage 3 will run with the convertor

Well all is well now. I took my stang to Chris Lovett at Wichita dyno and had him datalog on the dyno. I am glad I did this so we could gather a complete controlled datalog. He worked with Brenspeed directly and he got me all taken care of. The thing is a beast now with 400 ft. lbs. at 3000 rpm, then peaking at 422 at 4700 and holding 400 plus to 6000. The horsepower crosses torque at 5300 rpm and peaks at 430. A/F's were just under 12 all the way through while making 7.3 psi boost. Cost me a few coin to get it done this way....but I know what I got and I'm safe. I can't say enough about Chris at Wichita dyno, he could have easily convinced me to have him tune it from scratch, but instead told me I should take advantage of the tunes from Brenspeed that I had already paid for in all the mods I have bought from them....a real standup guy! Now I realy have a hook-up problem! Wo-hoooooooo!
