2009 GT?

2009 GT?
I wasn't very interested in the newest Mustang body style until they updated it in 2010 and was thinking of getting a new V6. But the other day I drove down to the local Ford dealership for the heck of it and they had 4 2009 GT's. They were all very nice looking cars. They were all premium's with 12-25k miles. The white one was a 45th anniversary model, auto with glass top, blue was manual, California special with CAI, STC and after-market exhaust, the black one had a glass top and flat black stripes, and the red one had Saleen wheels, CAI, SCT, and Borla exhaust. They are asking 25.9k for all of them. I think that is about 5k too much, although some of them do have some good upgrades I would have probably done anyway. I'm not sure what they would take for them, but probably wouldn't go down enough. Other downsides are they are 3 years old already, used car loans are usually higher than new and I hear the gas mileage is better with the newer models and esp. the new V6.
I was just wondering what you guys think about the price and upgrade ability of the old 4.6? I'm thinking the new 3.7 will be a better choice esp. with the a or x-plan, but these cars will have a torque advantage and may be a collectors item someday.

I bought mine for just under $20k a year ago, fully loaded besides the shaker 1000 and stock with 36k miles. That's what they were going for in the Spring in my area, and yes the prices will go up during Spring season. That said, I would say those are too expensive. About $21-22k would be more reasonable with that mileage.

Under $20k is what to shoot for. Collectors item??? I.... don't... think... so.
The 4.6 is VERY moddable. And at a steady cruise at about 65 MPH/1800 RPM you can get about 24-26 MPG, hand calculated, pump-to-pump.

I would consider a V6 Mustang only to drop it off at Shelby Corporation in Las Vegas to add a Paxton supercharger along with suspension bits and pieces and create my new track car like a Terlingua Shelby.
To me there is nothing like the sound of a V8.
Those prices you mention are approaching 2007 Shelby GT500 territory here in California with @ 50K miles on them. Anything the dealer has on his lot can be negotiated. Usually I work with the Interner Sales Manager as there is typically less hassle and they are aware of competitive market prices. If the dealer can't move on price ask for free oil changes for a year or monthly car washes for a year, a one year extended service warranty because sometimes they can bundel other services in lieu of price drops.
As far as collectibility, maybe the GT500 KR or the Iacocca versions but just about anything else, forget about it.
Good luck and don't be afraid to walk out on a deal negotiation politely if its not going your way. You can always come back or wait for them to call. Its your money and they're trying to get every penny.

Those prices are pretty damned ridiculous. I bought my 09 GT (heated seats, glass roof etc.) minus Nav and shaker 1000 at 23k miles for 23.3k and I know I overpaid. I did however have a nice fat check from the ******* who totaled my Trans Am so I didn't complain. Like DTMR said and I noticed it too, Ford Dealers mark up the Mustang if they think they can get away with it. If they are unreasonable in your negotiations then walk away and look elsewhere. Good luck.
Edit: I bought mine last May.

Yeah I know the asking prices are high. I just have no idea how much they would come down? keep in mind I did find that a 2009 completely loaded with glass roof was around 34k new. btw, I still have a couple months to shop around until my lease is up so now hurry.

Those prices are high. I got my 06Gt Auto with 15k miles in 09 for $15.5 Dealer was asking $24k. I just worked them hard for two weeks. If your not in a hurry and are not "in love" with the car and are willing to walk away you can negotiate a very good deal. Good luck.
