Exclamation Brake issue.....help

Having a problem with my brakes. I have an '07 GT. When i run the car really hard, i come to a stop and the rear left wheel is blowing out some serious smoke. I don't know if it is sticking or what. It doesn't do this when I drive it normally, at least that i can tell, however had a guy drive it the other day and he said he thought there was a problem with the brakes while he was driving it normally. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with these cars, and more importantly, what should my first step be?

Have you ever had the brakes done on the car in the past. If so make sure that the rear piston notches are up and down. The rears do not press in they have to be twisted in.

Now if the brakes have never been done then you will need to take the wheel off and inspect the pads and rotor.

The car currently has 71K miles on it and i just bought it in august '11 with about 60K. I haven't done the brakes since I've had it, but id imagine they would have been done during the 60K miles by the previous owner. Would the pistons not being installed correctly cause the brakes to seize? And why only under heavy use?

Never assume that the brakes were replaced/serviced by a prior owner. It sounds like you should take it and have it checked out instead of guessing before something goes seriously and more expensively wrong.

Roger that. I just wanted to put out some feelers and see if this is a common issue with these models. I do most of my own work, but this is my first mustang and I wanted to see if I could get some solid leads before i put it up on the stands and tore into it.

I would think if the piston was not in the correct position it would have been an issue before now. When I did the brakes on my car I had one that was off centered jsut a little bit and the wheel heat up quickly. I assume you hear no grinding?

I can't hear any grinding. Its probably unrelated, but i have a slight vibration when braking, I thought it might have been the old tires that were on the car when I bought it, but i have since installed new wheels and tires and still have the vibration though it is less severe with the new wheels and tires.

I would check the piston. take the brake caliper from the disc so you can take the b-pads out and with the brake fluid 'box' opened, move the piston in and then press it out slowly and little at time and do this couple of times and se if the problem is fixed. I have had the excact same problem on few of my cars and this did the trick. Hope this works.

Either you have no pad material left there or your caliper is sticking. Caliper is easy to replace. Don't forget to bleed the brakes.
