Default S197

Just got the mustang and still learning it's insides and outs. Can someone tell me where the meaning S197 comes from? Thanks.

Nothing in particular.. it's just the project code for the 05+ mustangs when they went to the newer platform.. Just like SN95 is for the 94+.. etc...

Sorry, just being my usual azz. Actually, I don't know what it stands for. Nor do I know what the earlier SN95 stands for either.

When they came out with the SN-95, it took them 95 tries to get the platform right.

Then, for the remodel in 2005, they took the 95 platform and revised it another 102 times, thus 197.

In all seriousness, I have no idea.

Its an internal (FoMoCo) code name - for instance, if we start with the '94-'04 Mustang aka "SN95", the code breaks down like this:

S = Specialty (market group/segment that the Mustang is in)
N = North America (location of project design engineers)
95 = Project Number

"Fox" = '78-'93 ('79-'93 Mustang)
"SN95" = '94-'04
"S197" = '05-?

SN95 - aka "Fox 4" (4 = 1994)
S197 - aka "DEW Lite" ("DEW98" is the code name for the Lincoln LS/Thunderbird chassis, of which the '05+ Mustang was originally supposed to built upon (in unmodified form), but it is now a modified DEW98 chassis and as such got a new code name).
