Default hanging rpm's

Anyone have any ideas on rpm's hanging after mods and tune installation? At cold start up my 05 GT runs up to almost 3000 rpm's and they are very slow to come down between shifts. Mods include Ford CAI, Kooks LT headers, high flow cats, X pipe and KR 500 mufflers. Also added Ford Hotrod cams.. Car has been on dyno with custom tune.. I'm thinking the computer is still trying to learn the new upgrades but it's so aggravating.. Any ideas?

How long has it been?
Yes, I have heard of some computers taking some time to compensate for mods, but the first thing I would do is talk with the Tuner.
The first tune I ever installed had a similar RPM decay issue between shifts. The tuner was able to fix it.

that is pretty high, mine is prolly 1200 on a start. BUT you do have cams. I would just take it back to the tuner if you can and make sure they double check everything

+1 on updating the tune. I recall hearing a long time ago about the earlier S197's having hanging RPM's due to something in Ford's programming related to emissions.

It's an adjustment in the tune that needs to happen.

Yup I have a GOOD IDEA.

You need your tune adjusted.
After installing Hot Rods this can happen.
Some tuners aren't aware of this.

We ran into the SAME problem with our 06GT when we had Hot Rods
installed and a tune. The first tuner could not fix it even after four tries.
We found a different tuner that knew exactly what he was doing and fixed the problem in FIVE MINUTES.

We not only had hanging RPMS, but after our first tune adjustment it
got worse with hunting RPMS (up and down up and down).

My advice would be to let the tuner know this is something that happens
with cam installs. For some reason I have heard about it more with the Hot Rods than
other cams, though I have heard of it with other cams as well.

If it does not get fixed after they adjust it send me a private message and
I will put you in contact with a GREAT tuner that knows just what to do.
Even if you can't take it there perhaps he could talk to your tuner to advise him
on how to fix the issue.

My vote is tune. There really isn't much to relearn. fuel trims are learned very quickly and my car has never needed to relearn idle

The guy who tunes my car said the car will need to learn cams to drive correctly, but it should be figured out in the spirited drive.

Yep we just took it out tonight to eat some dinner and it was all kinds of crazy... Almost 4,000 at cold start and increasing to 2500 plus sitting the red light.. It started raining and the car settled down and ran like it should.. Are you guy's running a caaned or custom tune?
