Default emissions and car dealership screwed me over

I bought this 06 mustang gt in Nov 2011 with a warranty. Came up for emissions and I failed only had evap can ready on test. jacked up my car to make sure everything was hooked up and looked fine. Found out lower o2 sensors were not plugged up and since my car has long tube headers the wiring was not long enough and I had to ordered extisions for the o2 sensors. Went to do emissions againg and and failed with all not ready. Jacked up car again and seen I don't have any cats. Called the car dealership and they told me that it was my problem not theirs. I have went to three exhaust shops to get cats put on and they all tell me its not.possible my exhaust has to all be redone. One guy at the shop has a mustang with pretty Much the same setup and said he things it has something.tondo with my tune that is in the car but can not find a tune shop that will touch my car because of no cats. I don't know what to do.

Contact the Attorney general. if they sold you the car that way, it means they inspected it knowing it had no cats.

Get an email tune from Brenspeed or Tillman Speed. Have them turn off your rear O2 sensors. Also, they make catted x-pipes that should work with your exhaust or you can have SLP or Pypes cats added to the exhaust. Also, it sounds as though all of the shops you went to have stupid people working for them. Don't go back to them. What headers are on the car? Take a picture if you can to help identify them.

You should definitely be able to weld in cats or buy a catted X or H-pipe without any issues. Like JCON said, get a tune for them as well.

You can have cats with Long Tubes? I didnt think that was possible.

And to the OP what are you states smog requirements? Are you allowed to take your cats off?

Also just a note. When you disconnect the battery to rest any codes, with an obdii car, you have to drive it a MINIMUM of 100miles before it will reset to all ready. That keeps people from resetting right before emissions test before the light comes back on.

yeah buddy thats illegal, a dealership cant sell you a car like that. You can weld in slp high flow or cut and clamp them, that way you wont retain all the back pressure from a regular cat. Just get it tuned. That whole "redo" your whole exhaust is complete bull

No offense, guys, but telling him he needs to get a tune to turn the rear o2 sensors off is most-likely not going to help (at least not for passing emissions testing). Most-likely, he already has a tune on the car that does exactly that, which is why the rear o2s were 1) not even hooked up the first time around and 2) still show as Not Ready when plugged in. If they weren't turned off, it would most-likely be throwing a CEL/code.

Tuners can write emissions-friendly tunes that turn the o2 sensors back on for emissions testing, but where you have long tube headers installed, and no cats, it isn't going to pass with an emissions-friendly tune anyway. If you get cats, and an emissions-friendly tune, it *may* pass, or it may not. I'm not an exhaust or emissions expert, but I believe certain people here have had luck, but I don't think it's a 100% sure thing.

Of course, if your state is strict about visual inspections, then you might be screwed anyway, since the long tubes are probably illegal, regardless of whether or not they pass the sniff test :-(

Best to go after the dealership. They are in the wrong (I'm assuming you bought it from an in-state dealership).
