Has anyone with 4.10 gears replaced the clutch packs with the carrier still in the housing? Plenty of online how-to's say you don't need to remove the whole thing, but with 4.10 gears the ring gear might get in the way.

The Detroit Truetrac is the way to go. I just upgraded my rear ends with true trac and moser 31 spline. It is great, you will need to replace the ABS rings on both sides. It is virtually indestructible compared to the clutch versions.
