deep cycling question

Well im apprenticing at an auto repair shop while in college because I wanted to learn how to properly work on cars while still obtaining my degree, my boss is an ase certified techinician and he tested it with me. This scanner hooks up to the alternator and battery and measures flow between the two. I also used a voltmeter and checked (although that would not exactly tell me what condition the diodes are in) my car is also relatively new, with only 37,000 on the clock.

yeah he's a smart guy, I've been there for almost two years now and I have learned so much. I just wish he had a little more faith in me being at the shop on my own haha. It is his business though and he has to worry about insurance, ect. so I don't complain. He even guides me from his own car building experiences and tells me what he has done that has worked and what he ended up throwing away because it was crap.
