Default STILL CONFUSED about valve covers

OK so I'm looking at valve covers on EBAY and their advertised for 2005/2010 4.6 Mustangs and I ask the person about the fitment because every one seems to think that 2007 on up will not fit a 2006. This guy claims he has done 2007 valve covers on a 2006 and just uses the bolts that line up.

2007+ valve covers use fewer bolts than pre 2007 valve covers. The 2007+ valve covers are structrualy upgraded (stiffer) so they flex less thus requiring fewer bolts.

You can use newer style valve covers on all 05+ 4.6L motors but the older style valve covers are not necessarily compatible with new 07+ heads.

Like the guy said, you simply use the holes that line up and you're fine.

Thanks for the reply. I also found this from a parts sight,Notes concerning number of bolt holes in valve covers:
2005-07 4.6L 3V Mustangs were equpped with 14 bolt valve covers. 2008-present 4.6L 3V Mustangs are equipped with 8/9 bolt valve covers. Either valve cover will work on any year model. The 8/9 bolt covers will fit 2005-07 cars & 14 bolt covers will fit 2008-present cars. The covers offered by FRPP are the 8/9 bolt variety.

I'm pretty sure they are 15 bolt and I think that all heads have the extra threaded holes. Someone with a 2007 and 2008 go see if you have unused holes in your head, lol!

I didn't know the newer covers were more rigid, I just thought ford realized they didn't need 15 bolts.

I wish I would have painted mine when I had them off doing the cams. Too much of a PITA now with the supercharger in the way.

I changed mine to the blue frpp covers, with the supercharger in the way. It wasn't that bad.

I have the older covers on my 2010 they fit fine. I don't see any strengthening of the 2010 covers just few bolts which save Ford some money.
