Default Recommended Spark Plugs & $15 Removal Tool?

I've read the horror stories about changing spark plugs in the 4.6 and 5.4 engines. One referenced a $15 tool to make it easier, but didn't specify what it was. Is this the thin-walled socket?

Second, what plugs are recommended as a replacement?

Application is an '08, 4.6L, all stock, with 26,000 miles on it. Future mods may be a tune, but nothing much beyond that.

Thanks!

I'd recommend autolite ht1 as I have had no problems. However the tool is a lisle ford 3v removal tool I bought (cannot rent) from oreilys for $95 I recommend getting it now before you begin installation. Read a lot more horror stories and solutions befor you begin I broke 1/8 make sure your replacements are 1 piece even though the ht1s are 2 piece they're reinforced.

Good luck

Rhustler is correct. Aurolite plugs are the best bet for our engines and it's better to have the lisle tool ahead of time for peace of mind.

You have an 08 so you might not need the tool or to worry.

What color are your coils? if black then get tool, if brown then chill.

in 2008 part way through the production cycle they changed from the HT plugs to the Zero degree plugs.

The Zero degree plugs are not a 2-piece problem, the HT are the ones that everyone hates.

Ugh. They're black. And the sticker on the DS valve cover says AA.

Ok as the coils are black that means you have one of the earlier 2008's witht eh High thread 2piece plugs

So I'd suggest buy the lisle (hope that you don't need it) and follow the TSB for removal.
