I'm fully aware it's not my money I'm spending, but if it was me I'd probably pay the difference and get a brand new engine. the warranty company is being reasonable (IMO) since your car is nearly 10 years old, but a new engine would give me a bit more peace of mind.

I agree with the new engine as long it's a financially viable choice. Unless someone is going to rebuild the LKQ engine, I wouldn't be comfortable from a reliability standpoint.

The guy at the dealership said if I wanted to get the new engine from Ford I would have to pay the difference, but it has a 3 year unlimited mile warranty if I get the new one from ford. The used one from LKQ is only a 1 year warranty. The difference if I were to get the new one from Ford would be about $1800.

Is it worth it to get the new one and pay the difference? My parents are willing to help cover some of the cost, which would be great. Or should I just take the used one they are offering and pay just the $100 deductible? I'm leaning towards the new one from Ford, I do plan on keeping the car for a while and I don't wanna risk what could happen with a used engine. Thoughts guys?

Id just ask them to give you the money and find your own motor and then pay the difference. That's if you want to mod it extensively. If not then get the new motor from ford

Not modding extensively. I'm going to be going with the new engine from ford, don't want risking something like this again on an engine that is used that could be a ticking time bomb as well. Ideally I would love to just take the money from the warranty company, and the money I was going to use to pay the difference for the ford engine and build a 4.6 and put the engine in myself, but time and space doesn't permit for that sadly. But I'll definitely have a much better peace of mind knowing that my car will have a new engine thats backed for 3 years by Ford.

I'd determine what caused the problem before replacing cams, lifters, etc.
