Low oil pressure
Hello I have an 06 ford mustang gt and took it to a shop since the timing chain guide broke and threw the timing off. They re-timed it and when they fired it up they said it had low oil pressure. They hooked up a test gauge to the oil pressure sensor port and at idle it was fluctuating from 0-50 real bad and fast. They said it’s bad valve train bearings and that I will need to replace the motor. Sucks because there goes 2 grand to re-time it. They did an engine flush to make sure that everything was clear and open since they did discover some sludge in the oil when timing it. It has around 213,000 miles on it so I’m sure I need a new motor soon anyways but with that gauge test does it sound like bearings?
The oil pump pickup was probably clogged up with timing chain guide debris, causing a low oil pressure which then led to rapid rod/main bearing wear as well as oil starvation of the valve train.
It sounds like the shop did a half assed job because they should have pulled the oil pan to check the oil pump pickup or even replace the oil pump altogether before reassembling the engine. I'd even go as far as saying that replacing the oil pump should be a standard operating procedure when doing a timing system replacement.
