does anyone know what causes low oil pressure? do i need to do a rebuild and what part mainly would cause this. at adle it goes right down to the bottom! but when driving it goes about 3/8 the way up?
my pressure at idle is way too low...

Without PSI values, not sure if you have a problem.

how old is motor? have you done a leak down? are you going by the stock gauge? also hows the oil pump, how about the pick up tube, is the screen on the pickup clogged or blocked? do you have enough oil in the motor, whens the last time you checked your oil? what weight are you using

you should get an aftermarket gauge before assuming that the factory one is right. if there is no knocking you probably just have a bad guage, or sending unit.

motor has 130,000 miles and never rebuilt, i got it at 123,000 and all the those miles were by an old man

yep im going by the stock gauge, im not sure how the oil pump is, i never checked for a clogged screen on the pickup tube, where is the pickup tube and how do i check that, the oil is full in the motor and i changed it about 500 miles ago, im using 10 w 30

Could be worn main bearings and in that case you need a rebuild.The pickup tube is in the oil pan and would have to be removed to see it.I would get an aftermarket gauge and check it,if theres 10 pounds per thousand rpm you're fine

so it needs 10 pounds at 1000, 20 at 2000, etc????

i think im down around 6 pounds at idle..but my idle is around 750, supposed to be 900ish, if i sit there and hold the revs at 900-1000, my oil pressure is up at the A on normal, which looks like it should be, maybe i just need to set the idle a littler higher?

get a mechanical gauge.. if pressure is still low first try repalcing the oil pump and pickup...
