Has anyone swapped a 2.3L OHC for a 2.3L Duratec in their 'stang?
I've been thinking about it. Swap the old for the new. I mean, Cosworth is getting 250 horse n 265 torque outta the Duratec...and that's NA. Might be something worth trying.
If I'm not mistaken, they are 2 completly different engines. The new ones would be cool but I doubt the old transmissons would bolt up, meaning you would have to either redo your front suspension and install a transaxle or fabricate all kinds of stuff to get it to bolt up to a rwd tranny, and even after all that you would have to find a computer to run it.
You'd be better of just trying to get a 5.4 4 valve out of a Navigator to put in there.

haha any 5.4...intech or 3v...would be nasty. i was just seeing if anybody tried the duratec swap. yea im sure its alotta work....prolly have to custom make a bellhousing, even prolly bore the end of the crank to accomodate the bigger input shaft. also you'd have to either get a different clutch or input shaft fabbed up to spline right. PCM could just be used outta a fusion/milan. lol then again im a ford tech i could get the wiring diagrams easy to connect the network of modules together. i dunno...i think it b pretty cool seeing that tho.
It would definatly be different, I am not a big 4 cylinder fan, I only have one because I am 17 and poor. For the work a Navigator motor would be the coolest thing on the road and probably run 12's.
The Duratec is a East Westengine design, when the 2.3 Lima is a North South design. LOTS of CUSTOM work is going to need to be done in order to get the duratec to work
Like anything can be done. Convert to North south. Custom bellhousing. Probably megasquit for control of engine. But why when a 2.3t will bolt in over a hard weekend and be done except tuning and fun. Now here is something I am thinking about. Looking for convertiable mustang to do it in. Found the motor. Going to use aerostar automatic. But a person could per this link use a t-5. http://members.tcq.net/rlstrand/ I know in a mg but it is a ford motor and a t-5. Question is how will it fit a mustang as far as where shifter will be and overcam head will be. May have to shift all forward and that would mess up a t-5 swap but no problem on automatic.
Just Be Original Get a 302, and Stroke it, Spray it, Turbo or Charge it..... Then the Moeny Saved from the Custom swaps could be put into bettin against those Civic's lol
Another thought about "custom powerplants" a 3.8L super coupe motor in a fox body? that would be fun. Or a turbo'd 3.8L in a fox...maybe a t-4? just food for thought.
