Default a4ld question problem

Recently bought 88 mustang lx 2.3l with a4ld tranny. Had a leak in tranny. I replaced the front seal, pump gasket, bell housing o-ring. Trying to put tranny back in and can't seem to get it to fit. alignedbell housingup to engine block and still have about 1/4 inch space. Will not go on. I have turned torque converter to lock in place and seems like it has. Does anyone have any suugestions....... Also do u lock it twice or is it just once...... Any other ideas or help would be greatly appreciated....

all four converter bolts match marked and lined up fine. they all went through fly with no problem still had 1/4 inch space. just enough so that the dowels from engine weren't goign through tranny bell housing bolt holes. thought it would just line up and then slide tranny onto dowels and have no problem but it just doesn't want to fit fully onto engine. also Pilot bushing and converter input shaft have no burrs or dents and no play in the bushing either......Any other suggestions.... Can it be possible that the converter isn't locking properly and keeping the tranny from seating correctly. How would u check that.... Or can u install converter to fly and the try aligning and locking it by turning crank .... Any suggestions

Pull the transmission again. Pull the converter, make sure the mid shaft is in there all the way, then push the converter in and turn it. Sounds like it's not fitting properly

i had problems with my torque converter, getting it into place, that is.. I just wiggled, pushed, spun, do whatever it takes to get it to slip in there... i agree with sleeper, pull it back out, and try it again..
