Default mystery engine

Hi
To the photos section I added an album mystery motor.
Can anybody help me with the date of this engine.
I bought it and it supposed to have all parts but it had a non-matching carburetor and a non-matching ECU (one of a sierra 2.0) with it.
It says EFI but the intake looks like it may be for a carburetor.
I'm stumped. The guy told me it was a mustang 2.3t that was only build one year. However the 2.3t has been in more than one year of mustangs.
Could someone please shed some light on this.
I would like to get this this in working order but at the moment I'm stumped.

Regards,
Ed

Definitely a Merkur cover... the rest looks kinda jinky to me. Get the numbers of the block and see what you can find.

It's got the number D8EE-6015-BA on the engine.
So it's a 1978 capri/pinto/mustang II engine.
