Need methanol advice.
Hi All. Just to clear the air, I don't own a mustang yet. Im a HUGE muscle car fan. My current track car is a whimpy 450ish hp 1999 Impreza. The motor is built to handle close to 600hp. Talking to many of my track friends that own fords, they say methanol injection is the way to go, to get there relatively safely. My car has no cats, but does have o2 sensors... needless to say there are no import drivers that have methanol experience that I have met.
So I realize getting 400hp is no big deal... but stepping up to 600hp with you big boys, is a new and somewhat scary adventure for me. I had ppl tell me that the methanol goes bad after sitting in the extra tank even in 2 weeks.... O2 sensors will shut the motor down, and other "no way it will work" concerns.....
So can anyone here that DOES have, or know anyone with a methanol injection kit, please please please share some insight with me. Is this a pipe dream? or can it work? Particularly problems that can come with the use of it.

Methanol won't cause any problems, but it seems people are using it as a Band-Aid for an inadequate fuel system. Counting on methanol injection to replace a proper fuel system is a problem waiting to happen. Used properly, it is great for lowering IAT's and cylinder temps in a boosted application.
Running a methanol injection kit can allow higher boost levels and more timing than can be run with pump gas alone, but if the system fails you could easily lose a motor.
