What Should I Look For - 93 2.3 LX
Hello,
I’m new to this forum and hopefully I will be back with “I Got it”
I have my sights on a 1993 Ford Mustang 2.3 LX and here’s why.
Like many of us, either I just had to have it or I had one was I was a kid. In my case, in 1981, I had a 79 Mercury Capri 2.3. Fun little car but moved onto many others
Fast forward to just two years ago.
I pull into work and I park next to a 1993 Ford Mustang 2.3 LX hatchback. Almost, as basic of a Mustang you can get. I check the car out, to include finding the owner. The story is; the car was given to him from his mother, who bought it new. My mind was racing and I told him, if he ever decides to sell it, let me know.
Cabin fever is setting in real bad this winter and the Mustang comes to mind. With a little research, I obtain the phone number of the owner of the Mustang. I call him and he answers on the first try. I inquire on the car and ask if he wants to sell it. He says, yes, your timing is great. He continues to explain he had it on ebay at $3500.00 but no bids. Which he admits was a too high.
Here’s what he tells me;
Purchased new by his mother
New exhaust
Tires are good
No accidents, dents or rust
101.00 miles! Yikes
Headlights are poor
Power lock actuator is broken
Sent me a few pictures and looks pretty good
Now to the question;
To the untrained eye, other than I’m sure it will need struts, shocks, hoses, brakes, is there any historical issues I should look for?
Any guidance will be appreciated
Thanks
John

So what is he willing to sell it to you for?
I paid 3700 for my 90 lx 5.0 with all the mods in my sig. Totally solid no rust any where not even the fuel/brake lines are rusted on mine.
typically northern cars, ie the salt belt , rust out from the bottom up. Look at floor pan , check the torque boxes , and frame rails. Also inspect the strut towers in the front , and in the trunk check the shock mounts.
And you know I wanna say get a 5.0 lol.

Update
Thanks for the reply Dawson
Yes, I certainly prefer a 5.0, black convertible. However, the price may be right and a good therapy project.
I wish I had more have an update but here in NY we are buried in snow. I was sent this picture. Certainly wish it was in a heated garage. However, the car does have a cover on it. Not that that makes much of a difference. For nothing else, this is a great "Before" picture. Hiding under this mountain of snow is a 93, LX. Hopefully, I will have a update before the end of April!

congrats on the purchase. good looking 93. I would recommend doing the 3g alt upgrade first (along with basic tune up, plugs,wires,oil,filters) the stock alt is 75 amp and when it gets tired youll notice dimming lights and rough idle with ac on. its an easy and fairly cheap upgrade and will improve things greatly. you can find 3g alts at junkyards all day long, I think I gave 45 for mine with no core. use the search or google. I had a 93 like yours with 187,000 miles and still ran like a top and got 25-30 mpg. wish I still had it. alas, welcome and enjoy your new pony.
