Stupid question

RE: Stupid question
Do I still need a block plate for an auto? The engine started and ran fine the last time I ran without a blockplate. I mean the thing is about as thick as a quarter. Plus the 1965 starter is huge. It will not fit past my headders.

RE: Stupid question
The C4 starter mounting bolts looked the same as the 1990 AOD starter. The only thing different was that the motor itself was almost twice as big. It wont fit between my hedders and the oil pan. Besides, the starter worked fine when I had the 50 oz flywheel on there.

RE: Stupid question
yes he did say something about the C4, but I did not remember that a C4 has the bell housing made onto the body of the trans. now when you look at the flywheel if you can, can you see how the teeth are meshing? is it riding on only a 1/4 to 1/2 of the teeth? like the starter is not going back far enough? or is it not going inward far enough to get the teeth to mesh together?

RE: Stupid question
It's not going inward toward the motor close enough. It reaches far enough into the hole to connect. It just spins on the teeth. It will connect and turn the flywheel sometimes, but it is only for about a half a turn.

RE: Stupid question
I don't know if they can relocate it or not, but they did replace it with a bigger gear. It didn't help. If I force it closer to the flyweel it will either break the mounting plate or cause the gear to hang on the flywheel. I have never seen anything like this.
