This may be a stupid question??? It sounds like you are saying the starter gear is not reaching/engaging the ring teeth fully. Kind of just barely touching the edge of the ring teeth. It is a auto C4, so you have a flex plate not a fly wheel. Is it on backwards?? Like I said may be a stupid question??

Not a stupid question, but no it's not on backwards. It is idiot proof. If you try to put it on backwards it wont fit. The teeth hit the block and the bolt holes wont reach the crankshaft.

Yeah I know it's a flexplate. Most of the time I call it that. I just slip from time to time and call it a flywheel. I'm use to running manual trans.
