want to advance my timing,checked out a couple timing lights,but there not cheap,I'm not going to use it much,so I don't want to buy an expensive one,my first question is,dose it matter what kind of timing light I get,I've seen some a couple different ones,expensive,and cheap,whats the difference?next question,you think I'll be ok just advancing until it pings then drop it back without a timing light?

I wouldn't recomend it. As far as timing lights go, they all pretty much do the same thing. Some have more features that others. You just need a basic one for what you're doing.

I just checked my timming,it was at 7 deg.I advanced it to 12 deg. to be safe,but even with 94 octane gas,it still gives me a slight ping at full throttle?most people set it at 14 deg.any ideas why mine cant go that high?

You may have carbon built up in your combustion chambers, causing higher compression (and thus, pinging). Does your car run rich or burn oil?
