Default how long is to long

I was thinking of putting int a new cam in to my 88 5.0. The motor has 200k on it and I think that the cam and the motor need to be replaced. I still have awsome compression on the motor. There are times that the car feels like it has a cam in it and then other times it doesn't. I think that the cam is old and tired. What would be a good replacement cam that won't have me changeing out valve springs because the cam is to big. Any ideas?

Um millage doesn't mean anything to me... As long as its got good compression and good oil pressure and its quite... Its a good one... For the 88, unless its a cali car. Its speed density meaning it doesn't have a MAF. What does this mean for you??? If you stick a lumpy cam in it, there will be MANY drivability issues. So you will need to swap it to MAF as well. I'd go with an E-Cam for a stock motor..

Well on the oil pressure is kind of weird. At times it will be soild and other times it will be bouncing around. It's still good even with the bounce. I have replaced the oil sending unit and it still does it. I have got a hole new gauge cluster and it still does it (i got the gauge cluster because I didn't want the 85 mph one that came with the car). I was think e or b cam. I have the jumper for the computer ( the one ford sells) but I don't have the computer. That's in the works.

with 200k on it, I'd look at replacing the valve springs and go w/ roller rockers. the stock springs are "supposedly" only good to .500 lift, but w/ that mileage, I wouldn't even attempt it. Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn't do any modding w/ a high mileage engine. I'd want to start w/ something that I knew would be good to go.

I would also go with an E-Cam... you can also drop down to a B if necessary.

you can get a basic rebuild really cheap! something to think about. but yea the E would be great. maybe a tf stage 1. either way you would be well off( if you change to maf).

If you want to go with an E-Cam the TrickFlow Stage 1 cam is better FYI.
