ur probably going to have to go with something larger than a 302 if you want to do it without a power adder, or your car is going to run like a dragster. This article i read said they got 405hp out of a stock 302 with AFR 165 heads and 1.7rr with a carb setup, im assuming its flywheel hp. not sure how tho when many combos with a cam and those heads dont get much more than 300rwhp...

a good head cam intake upgrade will bring you to 350

347 stroker kit, good heads, big cam, rr, hi-po intake, long tube headers, fuel upgrade, bigger injectors, high compression.

your chances are pretty slim gettin 400 rwhp out of a stock block and not cracking it in tha first couple hundred miles. for that high i'd go with a aftermarket block. you'd prolly have to go with a stroker kit and to stay small block and come that close you would have to have pretty high compression and make a lot of top end power. this wouldn't be very streetable i wouldn't think though. if you take a 331 or 347 with a little dicking around 300-325 rwhp should be around the range.

dss 347 with a 8.5:1 CR, trick flow r heads and intake, stage 2 cam .. all you're fuel upgrades, vortec @ 9 psi and a good tune should get you around 400 rwhp right? and total cost will be up around what .... 6K-ish!?

He said no power adder so scratch the vortech idea, also the stock block would most likely hold up for awhile. Over on stangnet.com int he forums there is a guy that has been running the stock block hard with 552 hp on a 302 for well over a yr now. So it is possible to get 400 rwhp but out of a 302 without power adders i think your screwed.

Its def possible to run 400RWHP on a stock 302 block. There are a billion people running that. I wouldnt take it past 500rwhp.
