Headers

RE: Headers
I'm going to have to disagree with specter here. In his case, yes, putting LT headers in on a newer mustang GT would be a bitch. putting headers on any newer mustang is going to be a pain since it's soo cluttered. But throwing headers in on a 5.0 motor is a sinch. For mine, the passenger side goes in from the top , and the driver's side goes in without removing the steering column if you do shorties, so it's really pretty easy. The first time you do it it's going to take you a while, and seeing as you have a 99 stang, it's definately going to take you a while. But what's hard reallly? Everything just takes time. It's not like your making them yourself.
But Ford Racing makes great headers. whatever you do, get them jet hot coated.

RE: Headers
i agree with the jet hot coating. And long tubes are a little tricky, i've installed three sets, one set of Mac which were a little more sketchy to get in, and the other two sets were BBK. My mac shorties were not really a prob to install. Especially if you have AC and smog delete. If you get long tubes, wrap the passenger side collector in header wrap to help keep the heat off the starter. Just to be safe.

RE: Headers
If you just get shorties you wont, but if you get long tubes you'll have to go ahead and get an H or X pipe for long tubes. If i were doing it all over again, i'd get a set of BBK longtubes with matching catless h-pipe. Go that route and you'll be much more happy. Long tubes sound better anyways.

i disagree with long tubes sounding better. whats so good about jet hot coating anyways? and doesnt it cost like $300. long tubes sound better then shorties when idling or low rpms, but when you bring the rpms up it sounds like crap because of the tubes not being equal, im thinking of going with bbk shorty equal lenghth. or just for more torque longtubes. not sure yet.

RE: Headers
I've never heard LT's that didn't sound good....except w/ an x pipe Go w/ BBK if you aren't looking for stainless. If you are Ford makes the cheapest stainless headers and summit has about the best prices on them.
Jet hot is higher temp than most ceramic coatings. FRPP's ceramic headers use Jet Hot nowadays. You can send your headers to them and they'll coat them for $150-200, I think.....

RE: Headers
If you have an automatic and you want to do LT's... Good Luck. They sound great but they are a POS to install. Also, if you go with LT's you will have to get a shortie H/X pipe. If they are shorties, they are not too bad to install. Just a little time and patients and you can do it in a couple hours.
